FIRST PENANCE 2011: In preparation for First Penance the child must be at least 7 years old and have completed two years of ongoing religious education in our Faith Formation (K-12) program or parish school. Both the child and parent are required to attend an Initial preparation class in October and a Follow-up Session in November/December at the church. First Penance/Reconciliation Services are scheduled for December.

First Penance, also known as “First Reconciliation” or “First Confession”, is a sacrament that brings God’s gifts of mercy and forgiving love into our lives.

Children are taught what sin is and that it hurts our friendship with God and other people. They are prepared for what to expect during a confession and that the “first” is just one of many during a lifetime.

Parents are the primary educators. Children and parents are given workbooks for study at home. Both the child and parent are required to attend two separate sessions – initial and follow up group meetings at the church for preparation.
