A message from Fr. Todd:

Why be Confirmed? Contrary to how it’s commonly understood, Confirmation is not meant to be an adult affirmation of one’s faith. Instead think of it this way: in Confirmation we are anointed and sealed in the graces of the Holy Spirit, so that we may be strengthened, to be sent forth to witness to Jesus. Confirmation calls us out of ourselves, to a life of evangelization (to share the faith) and martyrdom (to lay down our lives for the good of others). Confirmation classes and youth ministry are a great opportunity for are parish sons and daughters to deepen in this call.

“It must be explained to the faithful that the reception of the sacrament of Confirmation is necessary for the completion of baptismal grace. For "by the sacrament of Confirmation, [the baptized] are more perfectly bound to the Church and are enriched with a special strength of the Holy Spirit. Hence they are, as true witnesses of Christ, more strictly obliged to spread and defend the faith by word and deed.” (Catechism of the Catholic Church 1285)
